After a 2 week honeymoon, we arrived late one night into the capitol’s airport. It was the fastest we had ever made it through the airport: PCR test, passport control, baggage claim, and customs. Fifteen minutes and we were outside waiting for a neighbor who was on his way to pick us up. I was a little disappointed because he was going to charge us more than what used to be the normal, but I tried to shrug it off.
He arrived and we began the hour and a half journey to our village. It didn’t take long for him to ask about what we had been doing with each other's shoes during the wedding. Though he hadn’t made it to the wedding he saw video clips from his relatives. We explained how we had chosen to include foot washing in the ceremony which led to the story of what Jesus did and why He came to cleanse and set apart a people for himself.
After more discussion about various churches and traditions, followed by emphasis on going back to scripture, he asked for a copy of the Bible for himself. We were thrilled. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. God in His grace wasted no time in confirming He has us right where he wants as we traveled back to our village to begin life as a married couple.
